It takes skill and experience to achieve successful product shots for a client. Product photography requires not only a technically sharp photo, but you also need to create a unique image, sometimes of an object that actually isn't-well-unique! A good example of this was a recent shoot for a high end machine shop in Groton, NY-Bay Horse Innovations of New York.
The decision to photograph these tools "in situ" allowed for some very creative angles. The fact that this was a new farrier truck build by the shop was icing on the cake because the pristine condition of the aluminum made for a fantastic setting for these shots.

The best portraits are the results of an alchemy of technical skill, empathy and flexibility. Technical skill is easily measured, but flexibility and empathy are more much more difficult to quantify and are unique to each photographer. (Click on any image to see full size)
